From an Idea to a Jersey for the Peruvian-Canadian Community

Some products begin with a design meeting.

This one began with our customers.

As the upcoming Canada vs. Peru match on October 3 started getting closer, we began hearing from a number of former Pelotero Sports customers. Many of them had the same basic idea:

Could we create a jersey that represented both Peru and Canada?

It made sense.

For many Peruvians living in Canada, this match is a little different from a normal international friendly. Canada is the country where many of us now live, work, raise our families and build our lives. Peru is where our roots, memories, culture and football passion come from.

So instead of choosing one side of that identity, the idea was to put both of them into one jersey.

The Original Request Was Only the Beginning

The first requests gave us the concept, but we didn't want to simply place two flags on a shirt and call it finished.

We took the original idea and started developing it further.

The design went through several adjustments as we looked at how the colours, graphics and details could work together naturally. The objective was to create something that had its own personality — something that looked and felt like an actual football jersey rather than a souvenir T-shirt.

That is where Pelotero's experience in custom soccer apparel came into the project.

We worked on the proportions, placement of the elements and overall visual balance until the Canada and Peru influences felt like they belonged together.

The result became the Canada–Peru Fusion Jersey.

It was originally created simply to satisfy those customer requests.

Then something interesting happened.

We Realized the Idea Was Bigger Than the Original Orders

Once the jersey existed, we began showing it to other people.

The reaction made us realize that the original customers were probably not the only ones who would want something like this.

There is a large Peruvian community in Canada, and many people have exactly the same connection to both countries.

Some arrived recently. Others have lived in Canada for decades. Their children may have been born here. Some will be cheering loudly for Peru on October 3. Others may have mixed feelings about which team they actually want to win.

And some, quite simply, are celebrating the fact that Peru and Canada are sharing the same football field.

That's when we decided to take the project beyond the original custom requests and produce a larger run for the Peruvian-Canadian community.

More Than a Match Jersey

Obviously, the Canada vs. Peru game gave this project its moment.

But we wanted the jersey to still make sense after the final whistle.

The design represents something that exists every day: the connection between two countries.

For somebody who was born in Peru and now calls Canada home, it can represent both parts of that story. For younger Peruvian-Canadians, it can represent the country they grew up in together with the culture their family brought with them.

And, of course, it's still a soccer jersey.

It was designed to be worn to the match, at watch parties, during pickup games, at community events, or simply whenever someone wants to represent Peru + Canada.

Built Like a Pelotero Jersey

Because this project came from Pelotero Sports, we approached it the same way we approach our custom team uniforms.

We wanted an actual athletic garment rather than simply printing a graphic onto a basic shirt.

The jersey uses sublimated graphics, allowing the design to become part of the fabric instead of sitting as a heavy printed layer on top. It is lightweight, comfortable and designed with the look and feel of football apparel in mind.

We also decided to offer a broad range of sizing, including options that are often difficult to find in special-event jerseys.

That was important to us. If this was going to represent the community, we wanted as many people as possible to be able to wear it.

Created Because Customers Asked for It

Perhaps our favourite part of this project is that it wasn't something we originally planned.

Our customers planted the seed.

They asked.

We listened.

We developed the idea, improved it, gave it its own identity and produced the jerseys they requested.

Only afterward did we realize that we had created something that could belong to many more people.

With Canada vs. Peru approaching on October 3, the Canada–Peru Fusion Jersey is now available to the wider community.

What started as a handful of special requests has become a small celebration of football, immigration, identity and two countries connected by the people who call both of them home.
